dirke and lisa's wedding

on may 3rd, 2003, kera's brother dirke married a wonderful woman named lisa. it would seem that her parents nino and teresa have been planning for the big day since she was born because an event of that magnitude does not just 'happen'.

and what an event!!!

the food...the wine...

the food!!!

ok..it was more than just about the food but i'm sure i'm not going to forget the name of the caterer's any time soon.
(in case you're wondering...astorino's - on venebles st. in vancouver)

now i get to eat pretty well anyway so i won't dwell on the food for much longer (ok...i will probably mention it again - and again) but what has really inspired me to write about the wedding is the family and friends of the bride and groom.

i have only met dirke a few times and i liked him immediately...the first brother in law i have ever had that i actually did like...if i had to pick one word to describe his character it would be a difficult choice but i would have to settle on something like...solid.
put it this way...it's speaks volumes about the man that his grade 3 teacher(mrs. tuckey) was there.

and she was pretty cool too...i had the pleasure of sharing a table with her and we spoke of a lot of little towns in queensland and northern new south wales that we had both spent time in...

and lisa, the blushing bride...well, i don't fancy my chances at describing her in one word...although, recalling how she looked in her wedding dress i am inclined to say 'stunning'

down to earth, warm, and articulate all come to mind.

it was quickly apparent where she got all these qualities when i met her parents.

dirke is a very lucky man indeed.

the love and warmth directed at dirke and lisa on the big night was something to behold and anyone who wasn't touched by it couldn't have possibly been there in the same room.

i was particularly moved by justin's speech (justin was dirkes best man)

now, i had never met him before the big night, and i really didn't get a chance to talk with him much but he managed to make me cry and few guys are capable of that.

i cried for the joy of witnessing the love and affection that one man can have for another and of course at my own sense of loss for no longer having my friend jeremy in my life...the bond that dirke and justin share is so like the connection i was blessed with in my relationship with jeremy...i am getting teary just trying to find the words to describe my feeling on saturday night.

if i say nothing else on this page i have to say this...dirke and lisa - i wish you both a long and happy life together and i know that you will both make wonderful soccer parents...and to justin and dirke - cherish your friendship..it is priceless and irreplaceable!

and to nino and teresa...i know you are very proud of your daughter and well you should be!

last, but not least...to joe (lisa's grandfather) my heart goes out to you and your whole family at the loss of your wife of 65 years (no that isn't a typo - 65 years!!!)
i never met her but if the rest of the family is a hint at what type of woman she was...she must have been truly wonderful.

ciao.
