sportsfirst of all hockey is my favourite sport...i am canad_ian after all. around here, hockey means the nhl. for my aussie friends, i'm sure you realise that i mean ice hockey. my favourite team is from the city of my birth -the toronto maple leafs. i have started to collect photos of people in leafs jerseys so if you have a picture of yourself in a leafs jersey and don't mind it being online, by all means email me a copy. in fact i will cheer on any toronto sports team, whether it's the blue jays, the raptors or even the argos (although i am not particularly fond of north american style football - or what the aussies and brits call gridiron) when it comes to hockey games that don't involve the leafs i will always back the canadian teams over the american ones. of course it gets a ittle trickier when it's two canadian teams battling it out but i do have a hierarchy that looks like this... 1.toronto
(but you knew that) i do have a soft spot for the original six teams so boston, new york and chicago and detroit (though the underdog thing is cancelling out any soft spot i might have for them this year, eh) as for other sports, i don't mind soccer, and i hope that canada continues to improve it's world rankings. i am not a big rugby fan but one football code that i do like - and i like it alot! -is aussie rules football and my team is the adelaide crows (winners of two premierships so far - 1997 and 1998) i also have a bit of a hierarchy with aussie rules...of course in australia you don't 'root' for a team, you 'barrack' for them...root is a rude word...(as in " did you get a root last night" or "is she a good root?" or "this thing is rooted mate"- if you still don't get it, email me and i will explain more clearly. 1.adelaide
crows i even had the opportunity to coach my youngest son's year 3 footy team - there were some purists who were afraid that a canadian couldn't do that but we had a very good year. i like cricket,
and golf (like most
golfers i don't play as often as i would like. if the leafs are playing and it isn't on the c.b.c. i will listen to it online. at the moment i play road hockey once a week with some friends but as soon as i can afford to get some goalie equipment i want to play on ice where the game belongs. and last but not least i gotta say congratulations and THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to TEAM CANADA - men and women - for kicking american ass and WINNING THE GOLD!!! |
